That's iricidence , and can change in green or purple hues depending on the angle of view .
If the bird was higher or lower from your point of view the blue color might not have been visible .
I just found out that there also is a american version of this bird , almost indentical but strangely enough the difference lies in the DNA .

So, you are correct. But... I was too, seeing as the differences in our Robins are quite obvious. I also, searched for bluebirds and was getting quite confused, because in effect, they do resemble a robin during various stages., but none had the bright red on the forehead as the one you have pictured.

My apologies are humbly offered for any confusion. Heck, there are so many differences in birds, that I have a heck of a time defining the hawks that I take hundreds of pictures of, due to the variations in colors and feather patterns, from season to season.

I can quite see why the study of birds is such a complex field. And I've only been studying birds for several years now.

Thanks for the opportunity to do some research and see your beautiful robins there. Ours, if you looked at my pictures and article I wrote, are actually kind of drab in color, as compared to the Robin in the UK.
