4.1How can the Uploader help me upload files faster?
The Uploader can help you upload files faster by allowing you to upload files and folders directly from your desktop to your eSnips folders. All you need to do is right-click on any file or folder on your computer and select “Upload to my eSnips account”. After that you will be prompted to fill in the name, description and tags for each file you are uploading. All of these fields are optional though filling in tags is highly recommended. Using the Uploader also allows you to upload larger files and to upload files in the background.
4.2 How do I download the Uploader and Toolbar?

Download the eSnips Uploader by following the instructions at:

4.3 What can I do with the Uploader and toolbar?
The eSnips Uploader is the quickest way to upload files, record and publish video/audio and save web snippets and pages right from your desktop.  With the Uploader, and its accompanying toolbar you can:
  • Upload files faster and easier
  • Record audio and video with your computer's microphone and/or webcam, and publish them directly to your eSnips folders, or use them to leave comments on other people's folders
  • Capture partial screenshots, in any shape, from any web page
  • Snip images, texts and entire pages from the web
  • Search eSnips from anywhere
  • Quick access to your folders and your friend's folders
4.4 How can I upload files with the toolbar and Uploader?
To upload a file with the toolbar, click “Upload Files” button
You can then choose whether to upload an entire folder, videos, photos or any file. After selecting what to upload, After that you will be prompted to fill in the name, description and tags for each file you are uploading. All of these fields are optional though filling in tags is highly recommended.
To upload with the Uploader, select Upload Files, photos from the main Uploader screen. Then follow the procedure above. Additionally, you can upload anything on your computer by right-clicking it and selecting “Upload to my eSnips account”
4.5 How can I upload several files at once?
When you have installed the Uploader, you have two ways to upload multiple files. You can upload a folder by right-clicking on the folder either on your desktop or through Windows Explorer, selecting “upload to my eSnips account” and following the ensuing steps. Additionally, you can open Windows Explorer, select as many files as you want by holding down the left button while moving the mouse. When you have selected the files you want to upload, right-click the mouse and select “Upload to my eSnips account.”
4.6 What is the 'Capture' feature? How do I use it?
The Capture feature allows you to generate a custom screenshot anywhere on the web or on your desktop. You decide what part of the currently visible screen you want to capture and in what shape you want to capture it, then you can save it to one of your eSnips folders or copy it to your clipboard and paste it wherever you wish.
After clicking on 'capture', you choose the desired shape (rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, triangle, etc), then move the orange cross to where you want to start the capture. To start the capture, left-click the mouse, then drag the it to form the shape you have chosen. Afterwards just right-click and choose either to upload it to one of your eSnips folders or simply copy it to your clipboard.
4.7 What is the 'Snip the web' feature? How do I use it?
Snipping the web is an easy way to save web content on the fly, and in one place. It is one of the most used features on both the Uploader and toolbar, and one that sets eSnips apart from all other sharing sites.

The snipping feature helps to save links, text, images HTML or complete links from anywhere on the web to your eSnips folders.  When on a webpage where you want to save content, all you need to do is to click on 'Snip the Web' and choose one of the following options:

  • Save link to current page: uploads a link to the web page to the folder you specify.
  • Save selected text & images: select text and images on the webpage by dragging your mouse over them; choose 'save selected text & images' to upload those to the folder you specify
  • Save entire web page: uploads the entire page, in HTML, including all text and images, to the folder you specify.
4.8 How can I use the voice and video recording tools?
With the Uploader or toolbar, you can create voice and video recordings directly from your webcam and microphone, and upload them directly to your eSnips folders.
To create a voice message click on 'Record Voice' on the Uploader or 'Voice' on the toolbar. To create a video, click 'Shoot Video' on the Uploader or 'Video' on the toolbar.

For both options, follow the instructions in the recording pane. Click on 'Start Recording' to start and 'Stop Recording' to end the recording.   When you're done recording, you can:

  • Click on the Play button to hear what you've just recorded
  • Click on the Resume button to continue your recording
  • Click on Upload to eSnips and upload the voice file to one of your eSnips folders. Name, describe and tag the file you have just created before you upload it.  You can also choose to use this recording as the introduction to your folder by checking this option before you upload your file.
4.9 How is the 'Upload files' feature on the Uploader or toolbar different from uploading files through the website or email?
Using the eSnips Uploader enables you to upload multiple files, pictures or an entire folder at once, where the size limit for each upload is 50MB. When you upload files through the web interface, you can only upload one file at a time and limited to 10MB. Uploading a file via email is also limited to 10MB.
4.10 How do I use the eSnips toolbar with my Firefox browser?
The toolbar for the Firefox browser is not automatically included with the eSnips Uploader, and you need to download it separately after you download and install the Uploader.

To download the toolbar for Firefox please go to http://www.esnips.com/help/page1.jsp using your Firefox browser.  It's important to use Firefox for this because otherwise you will not see the link on the page to download the toolbar.  Please click on 'Install eSnips Toolbar for Firefox' to start installation.  Please note that Firefox requires your authorization to install an extra component and that you need to give esnips.com explicit consent for this installation (this is why it is bundled separately).

After completing the installation please close all Firefox windows.  The toolbar should appear when you re-launch Firefox.
4.11 Do I need to open any ports when using the eSnips Uploader?
There's no need for you to open any ports for uploading files with the toolbar or Uploader because both use port 80, the same port used by your internet connection.
4.12 Does the search box on the toolbar resemble Google's search engine? How do I use it?
The eSnips search box on the toolbar may look like Google's search box, but the similarity ends there. The eSnips box uses the terms you entered in the search box to find files on the eSnips site that are tagged with those terms. Use it to find others who share your passions by searching with files tagged with tags you have used or you are interested in.
4.13 What does 'My eSnips' link to?
!The 'My eSnips' menu grants you instant access to everything you need on eSnips, including all of your folders, your friends' folders and your popular tags. The' My eSnips' tool offers the following direct access links:
• My popular tags: clicking on enables you to reach the search results page for your most popular tags, allowing you to find others who share your interests
• Public folders: clicking on enables you to directly access each of your public folders
• Shared folders: clicking on enables you to directly access each folders that you have shared only with a select group
• Friends' Folders: clicking on enables you to directly access folders that your friends have shared with you

• My eSnips provides direct access to your eSnips home, the “My Home” tab in your account.
4.14 What operating system and browsers are compatible with eSnips Uploader and Toolbar?
The eSnips Uploader and toolbar are compatible with the Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems. The toolbar is compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Mozilla browsers.
