Charles Hackbarth is a Toronto-based artist, writer, music/soundmaker. Hackbarth's paintings utelize abstract and semi-abstract imagery to explore the multi-dimensional, evolutionary unfolding of the life process. Using a mapmaking matrix, Hackbarth meshes topography and cartography with organic patterns, diagrams, photographic images of blood cells, bobbin lace stitches, roadmaps, etc. His work is colourful, visceral and evocative. Hackbarth's recording project is called Bonecreak Ulysses. He realeases limited edition handsigned CD-R editions of his recordings on his own label, Hypnogogic Sound Lab. Bonecreak Ulysses draws inspiration from dark ambient, post industrial, electro-acoustic improvisation, electronica, folktronic, free jazz, freak folk, new weird america, etc.
