welcome to the esnips pages of north soundscape recordings (aka Dj Mackintosh) i'm a 32 year old guy from scotland who likes to DJ/mix/remix electronic music. this site is 100% focused on that single pursuit.
right now i'm mainly producing my mixes using a fully digital platform, ableton live. i use a behringer bcr2000 rotary surface and m-audio trigger finger for mixing and re-editing. these controllers make a really nice combination. and i'd recommend this setup to anyone using ableton. you can control almost limitless parameters with the bcr as it contain over 10 memory banks for manipulating stuff like track volumes, eq-cuts, filters, flanger, compressor, resonator...ect. the trigger finger is perfect for launching samples or adding your own drum patterns as you perform.
while ableton is great platform for polished studio mixing and production, i enjoy mixing with conventional decks too. at the moment i'm using a numark d2 director unit with seperate mixer and effects unit (DXM06). this is a really nice unit as it behaves like standard cdj's (jog wheels, pitch sliders ect) but interfaces with up to 3 usb media devices. great fun for head to head mixing with seperate libraries. you can even connect a mobile phone to this unit and pull tracks from that.
for music production i use a combination of ableton and a standard mixer. individual melodies and drum patterns can be created using ableton, warped into a particular tempo then sent through channel one of the mixer. from there i can send a track i'd like to remix down channel two and mash together in realtime, or simply apply effects from the mixer to the ableton output. while this could all be done in ableton there's something to be said for manipulating the music on the fly with a mixer...for me it feels like a more natural process.
my main inspirations musically would be the more psychadelic sounds that originated from the goa/acid mid-ninties era. i'm also heavily into techno, house and ambient stuff..... the particular sound i really enjoy is heavily electronic with trippy spacey highs and druggy baselines.
i'd be really interested to hear from orther DJs out there exploiting similar technologies...lets exchange ideas and tips.
meanwhile please take some time to listen to my mixes and i hope you enjoy!
