| Darwin lived close to this district when he (briefly) was a medical student in Edinburgh. Some of my early cultural experiences happened in this area, and this is a reminiscence of one of them (February 1974). Recorded live on the 24th October 2009. Postproduction on the 25th.

| Before the internet, there was the public library system, and Better Books. In 1974 there was no better way to spend Saturday afternoons than in Better Books, with a stock which ranged from xeroxed publications on Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion technologies, through the Marquis de Sade, to Rolling Stone and Roger Dean's album covers. Without realising it, I was always waiting for the Internet. Or was that the Apocalypse? Recorded on the 1st of June 2009, and uploaded on the 23rd of August 2009. |

| An evocation of the short story of the same name by Arthur C. Clarke. Recorded on the 18th, and uploaded on the 19th of May 2009. Anxieties move on - in the 1950s it was the phone system; now we worry about the Internet or a military network acquiring a mind of its own. But the anxiety remains. |

| American high plains. The big sky. A transitional piece, recorded in June 2009. This is a work in progress, which I expect to return to in future. The piece explores space and ambience. Recorded using a newly expanded soundboard. The lead instrument is a Yamaha electric piano, and the piece runs to just over 10 minutes. |
